HEAVY HANDS - E.P REVIEW

Scottish Hardcore is bursting at the seams, overflowing from its home territory and over the last year in particular, gaining a tighter grasp on the UK scene as a whole; if Heavy Hands’ upcoming release is anything to go by. To be released on Febuary 9th by Pinky Swear Records in collaboration with Thanks For Nothing Records, the 3 track record follows up their brilliant 2011 demo, which also forms the B-side of the various different versions of the 7” release.

Review: Oathbreaker - Maelstrom

Maelstrom, the latest release from Ghent based ‘Oathbreaker’ is the sound of pure fucking darkness being channelled through your speakers. The album is a whirlpool of thunderous riffs, that encircle a furious channel of visceral energy pumped from the lungs of Caro, the band’s resident screamer.

LAST WITNESS - THE VOID REVIEW

I expect my last three days to have been much like everybody else’s here in the UK, stressful, stuffed with food and in general, fuelled by excess. However, a few weeks ago, Last Witness announced they would be releasing a new track and video, as well as album pre-order bundles on Boxing Day. So, instead of making a start on everything I’ve put off for the ludicrous volume of exams I have in a couple of weeks, here’s a little write-up about what has been a pretty anticipated release.

NEW DEMORALISER TUNE!

BEYOND BETRAYAL - TRACK REVIEW

Northern lads Beyond Betrayal sent over their latest offering ‘Scott’s got a time machine (He told me tomorrow)’, the other day for us to check out. From their latest release ‘Money Can’t Save You Now’, a five track E.P which this track holds much promise for. Opening with seriously heavy, downtuned beatdown, the song progresses through tight djenty sections and more free groovy choruses, not lacking on the heavy one bit. It’s interesting to see how the band’s definition of themselves - ‘Melodic Hardcore/Deathcore/Metalcore’ shines through in this track without seeming like these guys were trying too hard to hit all the targets at once. Brutality mixed with grooviness and an interesting ability to break seamlessly into open sections make for a very convincing track. Sure, as a big fan of melodic hardcore, I’d have liked to see these guys embellish upon the elements of the genre I picked up on, but it’s no loss to what is a thoroughly decent tune.
