LAST WITNESS - MOURNING AFTER REVIEW
London quintet Last Witness are a familiar name within Hardcore, having previously put out two records that have since attracted a lot of hype. Their latest release ‘Mourning After’ has been heavily anticipated by both big and small ‘zines and fans alike, so when I heard I could download tomorrow’s release today from Holy Roar, I decided to see if one of my personal favourite bands would continue to impress.
HARDSHIPS E.P REVIEW
Unless you’ve been asleep here in Leeds, you’ll have noticed Hardships making a greater impression upon the local Hardcore scene; opening the recent TDONfest and playing a number of decent slots around the North. I must admit I’ve been listening to their E.P for a while now, and never really got round to giving it the coverage it deserves, so here goes…
CAVALCADES/SHALLOWS/SPEEDBOAT SALESMENT//HARDSHIPS/WE SLEEP IN THIS MACHINE - LIVE REVIEW
After staying fairly quiet on the live review front, I decided to go down to our favourite venue on Sunday night to check out a bunch of bands I’d never heard of. I decided also, to make the mistake of trying to take some pictures of the show (something I’ve never done before) to try and bring this blog into the 21st century. The photos were to say the least, desperate. The bands however, killed it, and in their own different ways.
HELL IN THE WELL - WHAT I CAN REMEMBER REVIEW
We headed down to this show last month in the midst of a load of A level exams, which probably had some influence on why a review never got written up. However, Damian (big up to him and Richard for putting the show on!) reminded me, and my social life’s pretty much non - existent, so I’ve got nothing else to do on a Saturday night.
HEAVY HANDS - E.P REVIEW
Scottish Hardcore is bursting at the seams, overflowing from its home territory and over the last year in particular, gaining a tighter grasp on the UK scene as a whole; if Heavy Hands’ upcoming release is anything to go by. To be released on Febuary 9th by Pinky Swear Records in collaboration with Thanks For Nothing Records, the 3 track record follows up their brilliant 2011 demo, which also forms the B-side of the various different versions of the 7” release.
Review: Oathbreaker - Maelstrom
Maelstrom, the latest release from Ghent based ‘Oathbreaker’ is the sound of pure fucking darkness being channelled through your speakers. The album is a whirlpool of thunderous riffs, that encircle a furious channel of visceral energy pumped from the lungs of Caro, the band’s resident screamer.

I expect my last three days to have been much like everybody else’s here in the UK, stressful, stuffed with food and in general, fuelled by excess. However, a few weeks ago, Last Witness announced they would be releasing a new track and video, as well as album pre-order bundles on Boxing Day. So, instead of making a start on everything I’ve put off for the ludicrous volume of exams I have in a couple of weeks, here’s a little write-up about what has been a pretty anticipated release.

TURBOWOLF - ALBUM REVIEW
The self titled début album from the Bristol based, psychedelic loving Turbowolf is nothing short of astonishing. It’s a record compromised of stomping riffs, wild keyboard flourishes and erratic vocals.
SURVIVAL - DEMO REVIEW
With BAYS’ wake still very much lingering in the UKHC scene, two members have already formed Manchester Straight Edge ‘SURVIVAL’, who recently served up their demo for free download. With hype around this band growing phenomenally over the last week or so, it’s about time we gave you our verdict on UKHC’s latest offering.
Up River - DEMO REVIEW
Brighton boys ‘Up River’ recently released their demo as a cassete tape on Pinky Swear Records.
Opening with ‘Old Friends’ eclectic guitars and raw as fuck vocals, this band kick us straight into their sound, no fucking about.

CURSES E.P REVIEW
My first taste of Leeds’ ‘Curses’ was at the start of last year’s Ghostfest, after they’d managed to win the ‘Road to Ghostfest’ competition, securing the opening slot, rewarding those of us who came down early, and, in the words of Jack Black, ‘blow my mind’. A listen to their latest E.P will surely justify my ‘School of Rock’ shenanigans (PLEASE STOP ME).
THE DECEIVER - LATE DEPARTURES REVIEW
In a few days, Birmingham boys ‘The Deceiver’ release their new single ‘Late Departures’, three minutes and thirty-five seconds of fast paced unison, harmonies and powerful vocals. Progressions into quiet lulls and later into more epic sections complete a fantastically produced song. Certain phrases make me question the originality of the track, but this is more than made up for in execution of added details and interesting passages which cut ‘The Deceiver’ above the rest.
LAST WORDS OF THE BRAVE - E.P REVIEW
Wakefield boys ‘Last Words of the Brave’ sent over their E.P for review last month, and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t give it a listen until now. This wee gem is up for free download from a link on the band’s Facebook page, so there is no excuse to check it out.
